Makeup artists explore the goods at The Makeup Show New York. Photo: TheMakeupShow.com Makeup madness has descended upon the Big Apple. For the fifth year in a row, The Makeup Show, a beauty expo for professional makeup artists, is featuring industry-loved brands and seminars led by A-list makeup artists like Charlie Green and Joanna Schlip focusing on topics ranging from Avatar-like theatrical makeup to celeb red carpet beauty tricks to the do's and don'ts of creating a career out of prettying models for magazine layouts. Brands like Make Up For Ever, Three Custom Color, Alcone, Smashbox, M.A.C. Cosmetics and Shu Uemura reveal their latest products and tips, in addition to more than 70 other exhibitors. And James Vincent, The Makeup Show Director of Artistry, has spotted some reoccurring trends at multiple booths this year. "I think Lady Gaga has helped women step out of the boring day-to-day and has inspired them to experiment and play more. We're seeing a return to color, with emphasis on the lips and liner. For lips, it's a bright summer peach or a dramatic red. For eyeliner, we're moving away from black and experimenting with different fun shades with a smudgy finish," says Vincent. And there's good news for deeper toned women who have had past difficulty finding shades to match their range. "There's so much diversity in our world, and Smashbox and Face Atelier are showing products that really reflect that. It's about time!" says Vincent. One of the tradeshow's most popular stops is always the Crown Brush booth, where artists in-the-know scoop up favorites at discount deal prices. "I love the mini foundation brush for a flawless finish, and I use the small fan brush to apply mascara to lashes for a real sexy look. The lip brush is also great for getting into delicate little spots around the face, or even for use as a concealer brush," says Vincent. While The Makeup Show currently hits Los Angeles and New York annually, the show is in talks to cross the pond and arrive in Europe next year. Dublin, Barcelona, Paris and Berlin are all on the short list of possible locations. "I'm voting for the cities where fat, bald and tattooed is a good thing," Vincent says self-deprecatingly. "So I'm pressuring them to choose Dublin or Berlin." The Makeup Show Hits New York; Top Trends Focus On Lips And Liner originally appeared on StyleList on Mon, 17 May 2010 09:30:00 EST.
