Hussein Chalayan's Light Metal Lover Palladium Revealed on the Runway

This morning, Hussein Chalayan showed Paris his mastery for Fall 2012. Known for using technological materials in his designs, like a dress that turns into a coffee table, or a dress that moves independently (which inspired one of Lady Gaga's Monster Ball gowns) this season he utilized the newest, lightest, strongest metal on the market: Palladium. He partnered with the International Palladium Board as part of their initiative to make the metal not only appealing for industrial, but also that of luxury. Hussein Chalayan muses on the collaboration, “It was very appealing for me to develop an idea inspired by the lightness and strength of palladium. This partnership was a very natural gravitation; I am interested in materials that are not automatically associated with clothing. This is what my work is about.”
