Jane Fonda’s voluminous hairstyle is one of the most memorable elements of the cult classic film, Barbarella. Her character is confusing and the plot is loose, but her sexy allure is undeniable, and her over-the-top hairstyle is a big part of the appeal. Barbarella’s full, sandy locks float in zero gravity, flutter through the sky as she’s carried by an angel, and flounce through her many erotic encounters. The full, tousled style is fun, timeless, and a little bit naughty. Read on for tips on how to create it. –– Laura Martin
Step: Roughly dry hair to 80% dry, flipping back and forth and lifting roots with fingers. Beginning at the front hairline, take horizontal sections slightly smaller than your brush. Lift straight up, roll down toward the scalp, and dry, pointing nozzle of dryer away from roots, until all moisture is gone. Clip each section to its base as you work.
Step: When all hair is dry, remove clips and spray entire head liberally with refinish dry shampoo, shaking through with fingers. Use a round paddle brush to smooth and unite style and mist with primp working spray to lock it in place without creating stiffness.
