Smart Shopping

One of the questions I get asked most frequently is about my strategy for shopping and my best money-saving tips.  So, as a follow up to this closet clean-out post, I decided to compile all my budgeting/shopping advice + the methods I use into one document that will be easy for you to save, print out, pin or reference when you need it most.  I personally find the "ask before buying" questions to be crucial in deterring me from those impulse purchases I may be tempted to make.  I hope this will be a helpful guide to use when adding pieces... - Read More

Black + White

Whenever I feel stuck in an outfit rut, I always revert back to a classic combination that I know works & one that I'll feel great in.  A striped sheath dress is a personal must-have piece for me - wear alone with sandals & a hat for summer, layer under a cargo vest with ankle boots for fall or dress it up with a trench & heels for spring (see other styling ideas here).  The perforated shoulder detailing on this one makes it cool & modern, while the stretchy knit is comfortable without being too clingy.  I can't wait to wear it more this... - Read More

Recent Purchases

Since I'm already well-stocked on basics, I'm continuing to focus any money I spend on items that have something special about them - like an fun print, an interesting shape or a unique detail.  My goal is always to buy pieces that are versatile enough to wear in different ways & that I can easily make look more expensive than they really were.   I created 4 looks below with my new purchases - two casual weekend outfits and two dressed-up styles.  In addition to the items above, I also bought this lace sweatshirt,  this chambray jacket & the chinos seen here.... - Read More

Seasonal Shift

With the (finally) melting snow & shift to warmer temperatures, I'm not only switching out my closet with lighter pieces, but I'm also making changes to my beauty routine. Because hair, skin & nails have different needs in the winter than they do in the spring/summer, I've decided to start a new seasonal series that will help you determine which products to shelve for now and what items to replace them with. - Read More

#OOTD - Spring Stripes

My decade long love-affair with stripes is one I'm certain I'll never outgrow. Though I usually gravitate towards pieces with a classic breton feel, I love the idea of something in lighter tones for spring. The woven texture and slightly boxy fit of this jacket make it perfect for tossing on with a basic tee & denim on those days when I don't want to spend time thinking about what to wear. - Read More

Spring Toppers

Nothing brings me greater joy than packing up my heavy wool coats & parkas and swapping them with more lightweight layers. In my opinion, there are 3 types of jackets that are ideal essentials for spring ~ a utility style (slightly rugged & weekend-ready), a lined anorak (preferably with a hood for those April showers) and a classic trench (for pairing with more sophisticated looks). - Read More

Free Flow Layered Outfit

For this time of year, though, I would have to say that a classic shirt-dress is near the top of my list. This one is over a year old and I've worn it countless ways - layered under a cargo vest, cinched in with a leather belt, paired with a printed scarf & tucked into a midi skirt (worn as a shirt). There's just something so easy about throwing on one piece that makes you feel instantly pulled together...and I love that every time I wear this dress, I come up with a new way to style it so it feels completely new all over again. - Read More

Casual Off Duty Outfit

Even though I now gravitate towards sophisticated & polished styles, my husband is always begging me to wear sporty outfits. {Secretly, I think it reminds him of our newlywed years - a simpler time before we had a mortgage, kids & school tuition to think about.} This look is kind-of a happy medium: it's dressed down (which he loves), but also incorporates elements that I feel best in (like a structured blazer & layered necklaces). - Read More

Color of the Moment: Powder Blue

I have been wanting a pastel blue moto jacket for months, but the one I previously had my eye on was slightly out of my budget, so I had to let it go. Then I came across this style and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. This pale blue is such a pretty color for spring and the faux leather is buttery soft, unlike some other brands I've tried. It's the ideal layering piece for our back-and-forth weather that can't seem to make up its mind! - Read More

Pixie Pants for my Silhouette

I jumped at the chance to try these new Pixie Pants with two-way stretch, in hopes that I would finally find the perfect pair to flatter my figure. I fell so head-over-heels in love with the fit that I bought them in multiples. This print in particular, with the piping down the side, creates the illusion of even longer legs. But I also picked up some in black because they're classic & versatile (and wore them over the weekend with a chambray shirt, pointed flats & my new bucket bag - love!). - Read More
